Roles & permissions
The four built-in roles, custom roles, and how permissions actually get checked.
The built-in roles
| Role | Scope |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control, including billing and deleting the workspace. |
| Admin | Manage members, administration and security. |
| Member | Create and work on projects, meetings and chat. |
| Viewer | Read-only. |
Change someone's role from Org settings → Members. The default role for new joiners is set in Org settings → Organization.
Custom roles
On the Business plan and above you can define your own roles with a specific permission mix — for example somebody who can manage meetings and members but not touch billing or security.
Nothing in Noots relies on hiding a button. Every action re-derives what you're allowed to do from your role — including the things Hoot and Autopilot do on your behalf, which can never exceed your own permissions.
Teams and divisions
Teams and divisions are about grouping, not permission levels — see Teams & divisions. A person's role decides what they can do; their team decides what they're part of.
